2013-2014, series of photographs, cyanotype prints on cotton paper, frame size 54 cm x 42, print size 16×24

This work began with a mistake, with dust from under a laboratory cabinet that contaminated a scientific preparation. The series consists of microscope photographs of preparations that are valuable, but also useless. Some have their place in the researchers’ collection, while others have become worthless due to contamination, errors and lost descriptions (Latin descriptio abest). They are united by a monochromatic aesthetic, in which the research process is reduced to a symbolic layer.

The series refers to the historical use of cyanotypes in science in Anne Atkins’ herbarium British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions.
